I was first drawn to oncology massage because it meant that I could help people with a cancer diagnosis. Both my parents passed away from cancer and I saw oncology massage as a great opportunity to give back to others.
I had Mohs surgery on my face for skin cancer in 2016, 30 years after my mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After my skin cancer operation, I tried to find information on how to care for my scar, but couldn’t find anyone locally who felt confident enough to provide care. I had a little swelling after my operation which made it difficult to read (my skin cancer was on my right cheek).
I was just told that:
the swelling would go away - eventually, and
the scar would fade - eventually.
